BM Methods

The BM methods are listed and described in Table 34-4 on this page. Table 34-6 on page 1013 defines the relationship between the methods and attributes.

Table 34-4. BM Methods
MethodValueDescription
BMGet()01hRead an attribute.
BMSet()02hWrite to an attribute.
BMGetResp()81hResponse to a BMGet() or BMSet() request.
BMSend()03hSend a BM attribute.
  • The BM uses this method to send a command (in the form of an attribute) to a device's BMA. The MAD's AttributeModifier is set to all zeros to indicate that this is a command.

  • A device's BMA can use the BMSend() operation to send a command or a response to the BM.

  • Upon receipt of a command from the BM, depending on the command type, a response may or may not be returned by the BMA. If a response is returned, the BMA transmits it in a BMSend() MAD and sets the AttributeModifier to one to indicate that this is a response to a previously received command.

BMTrap(Notice)05hA device's BMA uses this method to deliver an event notification (i.e., the Notice attribute) to the BM. See “Traps” on page 790 and “BM-related Traps” on page 1017.
BMTrap Repress(Notice) 07hSent to a device's BMA by the BM instructing the BMA to stop repeatedly issuing the same event notification (i.e., BMTrap(Notice)).
