Going Wireless

JDS supports wireless networking. Large enterprises, colleges and universities, and mobile organizations have found that wireless networking offers:

  • Freedom—work anywhere

  • Quick, effortless installation

  • Elimination of the cost, time, and hassle of cabling

  • Ease of expansion

Since wireless networking devices do not require cables, you can use your JDS computer anywhere in an office or home, even out on the patio. Outside of the home, you can find wireless networking in hotspots at coffee shops, businesses, airports, etc.—they are great when you’re on the road and need to get some work done.

In Figure 4-18, you can get an idea of how people configure wireless networks. In place of the traditional Ethernet cable, a wireless network card, bridge and/or hub uses radio frequencies to transmit signals amongst devices on the network. JDS recognizes wireless network cards, which in turn communicate with the facilities on a network.
