Chapter 6 Converged Infrastructure
Chapter 8 HCI Business Benefits and Use Cases
Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) promises to revolutionize the data center design from both a hardware and software standpoint. HCI software will complement the advances seen in server virtualization with software-defined storage (SDS) and software-defined networking (SDN). HCI hardware will collapse the layers of compute, storage, and networking into hardware integrated systems that offer single vendor solutions compared to the traditional multi vendor silo designs.
On the path to hyperconvergence, however, you started with converged infrastructure (CI), which put the data center on the track of collapsing layers to simplify data center designs, speed up deployments, and offer one-stop support.
Chapter 6 offers an introduction to the converged infrastructure and how implementations such as Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) changed the compute model of the data center.
Chapter 7 discusses the HCI functionality and its design elements.
Chapter 8 articulates the HCI benefits and use cases that are most important to chief information officers and IT managers, and discusses the HCI use cases and their different applications.
