Bufwaits

Problem: Too Many Bufwaits

Excessive number of bufwaits observed in IDS 7.22. What is the cause and what do I need to correct it? Have not seen any ovbuff entries in onstat -p.

Solutions: LRUs and Read-Ahead

• Try increasing your LRUS. Sometimes bufwaits can be caused by excessive LRU contention.

• Excessive bufwaits can also be caused by high user activity or excessive number or discarded read-aheads. Try lowering your RA_PAGES and/or RA_THRESHOLD parameters to reduce the number of read-aheads if your onstat -p output indicates that you are experiencing lots of discarded read-ahead pages.

• Try increasing the BUFFERS value.

• You may be getting hit by a bug in which certain LRU settings are problematic. Try decreasing or increasing your LRU settings by one and see what happens.
