Much of the information about the meanings of the fields in the onstat commands was copied directly from Informix's excellent Administrator's Guide for Informix Dynamic Server, Version 7.3, February 1998. It's hard to exercise a lot of poetic license with field descriptions, and I wanted to come clean with the admission that some of this was just cut-and-paste. The manuals have said this a lot better than I could ever say it.

The CD-ROM that accompanies this book contains two Adobe Acrobat (pdf) files. One is the full text of the Version 7.3 Administrator's Manual, and the other is the Performance Tuning manual. These were the latest and greatest versions at the time of publication of this book. These digital versions of the manuals are absolutely wonderful. They are relatively complete and very clear, and Acrobat comes with a powerful digital search capability. The digital search capability is reason enough to get the digital version.
