User placement versus procedural placement

In this chapter, we learned how to better understand the environment and use this information to place our bin with little user intervention. By contrast, in the previous chapter, we had the user explicitly place the bin. So, which one should you use? I would argue, both. The real value is in being able to assist the user in achieving their task, in this instance, placing the bin. The interaction paradigm and technology for MR is still in its infancy and, at times, can be cumbersome to use. By assisting the user in performing tasks, we can make the user more efficient and improve the user experience, similar to how auto-compete improves the writing experience on your smartphone. An concrete example of how we can achieve this with placement is by offering the user a few suitable places and giving them, the user, control to make the final decision.

With our bin now placed, it's time to finish the game by allowing the user toss the paper. At this point, you can use either of the previous two approaches discussed to place the bin.
