About the Authors

Bob Bryla is an Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g, and 12c Certified Professional with more than 20 years of experience in database design, database application development, training, and Oracle database administration. He is the primary Oracle DBA and database scientist at Epic in Verona, Wisconsin. Bob has served as a technical editor for a number of Oracle Press books, including several certification study guides for Oracle Database 10g, 11g, and 12c. You can also find him on Lynda.com teaching Oracle Database fundamentals in bite-sized videos. Bob has also been known to watch science fiction movies, tinker with Android devices, and refinish antique furniture in his spare time.

Robert G. Freeman is the author of a number of books that cover a wide range of Oracle Database topics. From backup and recovery to new features to Oracle GoldenGate and more, Robert has written on the subject. Robert has been working with Oracle Database for longer than he cares to admit. Robert currently lives in Des Moines, Iowa, and is the proud husband of Carrie, proud father of seven children, and enjoys numerous things including swimming in his backyard pool, traveling, and flying airplanes.

Eric Yen, OCP, CISSP, is a Senior Principal with Oracle’s National Security Group. He has been working with Oracle databases since version 7.3.2. Directly recruited to Oracle out of college, Eric developed his passion to learn, understand, and implement database technology early in his career.

Pete Sharman is a freelance technical architect specializing in Oracle Database and High Availability architecture. He worked with Oracle for 22 years in a variety of roles, from education to consulting to development, most recently for 5 years as a Principal Product Manager with the Enterprise Manager product suite group. Pete is a member of the OakTable Network, and has presented at conferences around the world, including Oracle OpenWorld (both in Australia and the United States), RMOUG Training Days, the Hotsos Symposium, Miracle Open World, and the AUSOUG and NZOUG conferences. Pete has previously authored a book on how to pass the Oracle8i Database Administration exam for the Oracle Certified Professional program, co-authored a book on Enterprise Manager, and co-authored a book on Oracle Database Cloud technology. He is based in Canberra, Australia.

Michelle Malcher is a data and security professional with several years of experience in database development, design, and administration. She has expertise in security, performance tuning, data modeling, and database architecture of very large database environments. As an Oracle ACE Director, she enjoys sharing knowledge about best practices involving database environments. Her experience is focused on designing, implementing, and maintaining stable, reliable, and secure database environments to support business and important business processes. Michelle has held several positions on the IOUG Board of Directors. She has authored articles for the IOUG Select Journal and a book, Oracle Database Administration for the Microsoft SQL Server DBA (Oracle Press/McGraw-Hill Education, 2010), and is a co-author of Oracle Database 12c: Install, Configure & Maintain Like a Professional and Securing Oracle Database 12c (Oracle Press/McGraw-Hill Education).
