What's Next?

This chapter discussed various Oracle indexing features. It is important to understand the various indexing options and how they work before proceeding to the next chapter on application tuning. Chapter 16, “Using TOAD in the Development Arena,” discusses the ins and outs of both the Rule-based optimizer and the Cost-based optimizer, how each make their index selections, and so on.

This chapter introduced you to the various Oracle9i indexing features. These examples were highlighted with example usage in the Sales Tracking Application. This chapter also discussed all the Oracle8i partitioning features, examples of good uses of each, and illustrations using these partitioning features in the Sales Tracking Application.
