Further Reading

JAD is a complex, well-defined process, and a full description of how to do it takes much more than one chapter. If you don't have access to a trained facilitator, the first book below is a good place to start.

Wood, Jane, and Denise Silver. Joint Application Development, 2d Ed. New York: John Wiley & Sons, 1995. This book thoroughly explores the many variations of JAD and describes how to become a JAD facilitator. It's well-written and loaded with practical suggestions.

August, Judy. Joint Application Design. Englewood Cliffs, N.J.: Yourdon Press, 1991. This is a well-organized, easily readable discussion of JAD that focuses on the way JAD has been done at IBM. It maps out each of the JAD steps and contains much practical advice, such as which visual aids to prepare before the JAD session, how to conduct the JAD kickoff meeting, and much more.

Martin, James. Rapid Application Development. New York: Macmillan Publishing Company, 1991. Chapters Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 describe JAD, and the rest of the book describes a rapid-development context (RAD) that relies on JAD.
