Supplies

  • 2′ of 1/2″ CPVC pipe (Few hardware stores sell this in lengths of less than 5′.)

  • one CPVC end cap

  • a 6″ length of 1″ by 2″ pine board

  • a 5″ length of 1″ by 1/2″ pine trim

  • two #12 hose clamps (about 5″ long, used on hoses 11/16″ to 1 1/4″ in diameter)

  • two 1″ wood screws

  • two 1/2″ wood screws

  • a small, nonconductive enclosure, such as a throat-lozenge or candy box

  • a disposable 35 mm camera with a flash

  • an empty 35 mm camera film canister

  • one 10k ohm resistor (coded with brown-black-orange stripes)

  • one SPST (single pole, single throw) momentary push-button switch, such as RadioShack part #275-1571

  • one SPST mini-toggle switch, such as RadioShack part #275-612

  • duct tape

  • 22- or 24-gauge insulated, stranded-core hook-up wire

  • three straight pins

  • a pencil with brand new eraser

  • Gorilla Glue

  • electrical tape

  • 2′ of 1/4″ dowel (or a 2′ scrap of bamboo garden stake, leftover from making FedEx Kites in Chapter 23)

  • a canister of Binaca breath spray

  • a bag of mini marshmallows (for ammunition)

  • (optional) a AA battery holder and a second SPST mini-toggle switch

  • (optional) double-sided, foam-backed tape

  • (optional) a second SPST momentary push-button switch, which makes RadioShack part #275-1571 a good buy, since it includes two identical switches
