DTDs

Although XML editors allow for the editing of XML documents, they do not necessarily support the authoring of Document Type Definitions. The following applications allow you to edit DTDs so that you can use them with your XML instance documents to create well-formed XML.

  • Near and Far Designer (http://www.opentext.com/near_and_far/)— Near and Far Designer features multifunction, cross platform IDE for programming a GUI that allows users to design DTDs visually, and then export an XML-compliant DTD for use with XML instance documents.

  • TurboXML (http://www.tibco.com/products/extensibility/index.html)— TurboXML allows you to edit DTDs using a GUI, and in fact offers support for a number of different Schema formats, not just limited to DTDs and XML Schemas.

  • XML Spy (http://www.xmlspy.com)— XML Spy allows the editing of DTDs, using a text-based interface. Although this allows you to edit DTDs, it doesn't offer some of the GUI features of various other DTD products.
