In many of the figures in this book, we refer to the “happy” and “unhappy” groups as “happy retirees” and “unhappy retirees.”

The survey categorized respondents into five levels of happiness on a scale of H1 to H5, H5s being the most happy group and H1s the least happy group. The “happy retiree” group in many of the graphs and charts in this book represents a combination of data from the two happiest groups (H4s and H5s) in the survey, while “unhappy retirees” represent a combination of data from the two least happy groups (H1s and H2s). Simply put, the happy group is comprised from the data set of H4s and H5s, and the unhappy group is comprised of H1s and H2s.
