Creating development and distribution certificates

Once you have a certificate signing request, you can use it to create development and distribution certificates. Development certificates are used when you want to test your app on your own iOS devices, and distribution certificates are used when you want to upload your app to the App Store. Here's how to create development and distribution certificates:

  1. Log in to your Apple Developer account and click Certificates, IDs & Profiles:

  1. You'll see the Certificates screen. Click the + button:

  1. Click the Apple Development radio button, and click Continue:

  1. Click Choose File:

  1. Upload the CSR by selecting Choose File under Upload CSR file, selecting the CSR file you saved earlier to your hard disk, and clicking Choose.
  2. Click Continue:

  1. Your certificate will be generated automatically. Click Download to download the generated certificate onto your Mac:

  1. Double-click the downloaded certificate to install it on your Mac.
  2. Repeat steps 3-9 again, but this time, choose Apple Distribution in step 4:

Great! You now have development and distribution certificates. The next step is to register the App ID for your app to uniquely identify your app on the App Store. You will learn how to do that in the next section.
