Stardog provides a knowledge graph platform for the enterprise. Unlike a plain graph database that supports a graph as a data structure, Stardog's Knowledge Graph platform is more than a graph database. The Stardog Knowledge Graph platform combines the unique combination of an enterprise-strength graph database with a knowledge toolkit to provide a wider and deeper range of services than any other graph- or data-unification platform. The platform fuses machine learning, reasoning, and rules as a means to obtain contextual insight across all the data.

Here is a high-level conceptual architecture of StarDog:

Stardog's primary means of graph manipulation is via the industry standard SPARQL 1.1 Query language. Stardog supports the full SPARQL 1.1 query syntax (CONSTRUCT, SELECT, DESCRIBE, ASK), as well as the SPARQL Update syntax (INSERT, INSERT DATA, DELETE, DELETE DATA) via the command line, local Java API, or HTTP API. In addition, Stardog also provides support for SPARQL-federated queries via the SERVICE keyword providing distributed queries across SPARQL-complian data sources, including Stardog databases either on the same or distributed servers.
