THE AUTHOR

Susan L. Golden is a consultant who helps organizations with capital campaigns and grantseeking. She has helped raise more than $700 million for projects in health care, education, social services, materials science, economic development, and the arts. She has worked with over 100 organizations, most of them in north-eastern Ohio. She was recently honored to be selected Outstanding Fund-Raising Executive for 1996 by the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives Greater Clevland Chapter.

Golden began her career as a college English instructor, founding the Writing Lab at Cleveland State University and later the Developmental Education Program at Dyke College in Cleveland. She entered the field of fundraising as director of development at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she worked for seven years.

Her education includes doctorate and master of arts degrees from Duke University, where she was a National Defense Education Act Title IV Fellow, and a bachelor of arts degree magna cum laude from Case Western Reserve University, where she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society as a junior.

As a volunteer, she serves as vice president of the National Society of Fund-Raising Executives (NSFRE) Greater Cleveland Chapter and a member of the Research Council of NSFRE nationally. She also serves as executive director of The Landau Foundation, and is a member of Grantmakers Forum. She recently joined the editorial board of the Journal of Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector Marketing.

A Cleveland native and booster, she has endured a 40-year-plus love-hate relationship with the piano, and she dotes shamelessly on her daughters and nephews.
