A1 THE BCS FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE IN USER EXPERIENCE

The examination for the BCS Foundation Certificate in User Experience is a closed-book multiple choice test, delivered either on paper or online (see https://www.bcs.org/get-qualified/certifications-for-professionals/user-experience-certifications/bcs-foundation-certificate-in-user-experience/). There are 40 questions to be completed in one hour. The pass mark is 26/40, that is, 65%. The examination is designed to be achievable with 18 hours of study.

The level of knowledge required for each area of the syllabus is defined according to the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) K levels, as described on the BCS website. The full set of SFIA levels is shown in Table A1.1.

You will recognise the terms ‘Apply’, ‘Understand’ and ‘Remember’ from the lists of Learning Objectives at the start of the chapters in this book. All the learning objectives in the syllabus are at one of these three levels.

The maximum level for each top-level area of the syllabus is either Understand or Apply. This and the weighting, that is, the target number of questions in the exam, for each area are shown in Table A1.2.
