Confluence can import content from many different sources, including other Confluence sites. In most cases, people move from a document-based system to Confluence, and therefore, we will take a closer look at the Word document importer. If you are interested in importing content from other sources, such as another wiki, please take a look at https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Importing+Content+Into+Confluence.
If you import an Office Word document, it will be available as a Confluence page to your users, with all the advantages of a Confluence page. The Word document is no longer required.
The simplest way to import a Word document is to import the entire content of the document as a single Confluence page.
More advanced options allow you to import the content into a new page, split a single document into multiple pages based on headers, and resolve title conflicts.
Confluence can import valid Microsoft Word documents stored as 97-2007 (.doc
and .docx
) formatted documents.
It is worthwhile to prepare your Word document before importing it into Confluence. Verify that all the headings are correct and that there is no Word Art (as Confluence doesn't support this) in your document. Make sure the images in your document are at 100 percent magnification; this will make sure Confluence imports the images in their full size.
Using this method will replace all the content on the current wiki page, so use it with caution:

It is also possible to split a Word document based upon the headers in the document; Confluence will create child pages for those headers:
