About the authors

Ray Tricker (MSc, IEng, FInstM, MIQA, MIRSE), as well as being the principal consultant managing director of a consultancy specialising in Quality Management Systems, is an established Butterworth-Heinemann author. He served in the Royal Corps of Signals for a total of 37 years during which time he was Chief Engineer of NATO ACE COMSEC. He was also the Communications Equipment Manager and Maintenance Adviser to the Hong Kong forces, commanded the Central Region Repair Depot’s technical workshops with the NATO forces in Europe and has held communications-related responsibilities with among others the Saudi Arabian National Guard and the Royal Signals Communications Projects Agency.

Currently he is the Co-ordinator for a Commission-sponsored project aimed at harmonising the Rules and Regulations for the future high speed European Railway networks.

For this book, Ray is joined by his daughter Samantha (Sam) Tricker (MInstPet), who is also a serving officer in the RAF. Sam is a supply specialist instructor, specialising (since 1996) in Fuel Matters. She is also very experienced in pollution control and environmental matters. As part of her current job as Operations Officer she has responsibility for environmental as well as health and safety matters for personnel on operations and exercises in the UK and overseas.
