Black and White will remove all colors from an image, creating a dramatic effect. Once the color is removed from a photo, you can use another adjustment, such as Levels or Brightness/Contrast, to make the black pixels blacker and the white pixels whiter.
In this way, you can make a simple black-and-white effect pop in multiple ways.
You may now try using the Black and White option by performing the following simple steps:
- Select one of your own photos and import it into Paint.NET.
- Select Black and White.
- Select Auto-Level.
Notice how doing these two simple things dramatically changes the tone of the image? You can take an average color photo of someone's face and turn it into a portrait just like that (snap!).
