1940s, 20 years after Gaudí’s death, so this sweet
treat toy is clearly a fake. Inspired by the unique
chimney designs of Casa Mila, I sculpted some
rigid urethane foam to make a parody PEZ head
design. Vacuum-formed PETE plastic completes
the blister card package. (See makezine.com/
projects/kitchen-floor-vacuum-former to build
your own Kitchen Floor Vacuum Former, and
see Make: Volume 74 for details on sculpting and
painting foam, in another fun fake toy: Roth’s
Orbitron as a Hot Wheels car.)
Salvador Dalí, another Catalonian artist, is best
known for his surrealist paintings featuring
dream-like landscapes and improbable
objects: lobster telephones, drooping clocks,
and ambiguous optical illusions. Dalí also
used his flamboyant talents and personality to
make films, fashions, and even advertising for
prosaic products like Alka-Seltzer and Braniff
International Airways. But this fun fake version of
a classic novelty is only a dream (Figure

).
Silly Putty a la Dalí is just too funny to resist!
The putty picks up a penciled clock face, reversed,
to ultimately read right (Figure
I
). Sagging
shapes of the stretched putty and a gold painted
egg/container are right from Dalí’s imagination.
I added some novelty plastic ants for the final
surrealistic touch (Figure
