Biographical notes

Wendy Banfield

Wendy Banfield is Senior Lecturer in HRM at Middlesex University Business School teaching International HRM, International Business Organisation and Employee Resourcing. A Fellow of IPD, she is also Programme leader of the IPD Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management. Following a degree in History, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Personnel Management from Aston University, she worked in personnel roles in both domestic and international companies before becoming a consultant, then joining the business school. She took an MBA at Henley, the Management College. She is particularly interested in ethical and cultural issues in international business.

Brenda Barrett

Brenda Barrett is Professor of Law in Middlesex University Business School. She studied law at Oxford and was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn. Her PhD was on employer’s liability and, while she has many years of experience of lecturing and publishing on employment law generally, her special area of expertise is the law of occupational health and safety. Her research and publications on health and safety have given her a sufficient reputation for the United Nations to fund her in 1997 to visit China as an international expert.

Peter Critten

Peter Critten is Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University Business School specialising in HRD and Organisation Development. His background is in the design and evaluation of training systems mainly in service industries and in former Industrial Training Boards. In recent years, in association with the University’s National Centre for Work Based Learning Partnerships, he has published guidelines to Health Care Practitioners on using portfolios for professional development and has a research interest in how portfolios can be used for both individual and organisation development.

Delia Goldring

Delia Goldring has a wide range of experience as a human resources practitioner in a variety of industries over a 20-year period. She is currently Director of Human Resources Jewish Care for a major social services agency based in the South East of England, from 1984 to 1996 she was Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University Business School in addition to running a successful human resources consultancy practice.

Phil James

Phil James is Professor of Employment Relations at Middlesex University Business School. Prior to joining the university he had worked as a researcher and editor at Industrial Relations Services, and taught at Birmingham University. Phil has researched and published widely in the fields of employee relations and occupational health and safety, and is a member of the editorial advisory board of the Human Resource Management Journal.

Jacqui Kasket

Jacqui Kasket is Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Middlesex University Business School specialising in Training and Organisation Development. She has over 25 years practical experience in both the public and private sector, working as a trainer and internal and external consultant. Her early career includes posts as a line manager and personnel manager, before specialising in training and development.

Anna Kyprianou

Anna Kyprianou is Principal Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Middlesex University Business School. She has lectured in organisational behaviour and training and development for over twelve years, and is actively involved in training and development research and consultancy in business organisations.

John Lane

John Lane is an Occupational Psychologist and a partner in John Lane Associates (JLA), a consultancy specialising in selection and development. John has had careers in both Sales and HRM and now is Associate Senior Lecturer at Middlesex University. He has published a number of articles in leading professional journals.

Tanya Pyne

Tanya Pyne is an Occupational Psychologist with expertise in the design and validation of selection methods. Tanya is currently employed at Middlesex University Business School in a research capacity where her primary interest is in the performance and development of staff in the National Health Service.

Allan Williams

Allan Williams is Professor of Organisational and Occupational Psychology, and Director of the Centre for Personnel Research and Enterprise Development at the City University Business School. Prior to holding his present post of Deputy Dean at the School, he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University. He has researched, consulted and published widely in the HRM and organisation development areas. He is co-author of Changing Culture, published by IPD, and of The Competitive Consultant, published by Macmillan.
