One advantage of using entity numbers instead of names is that the browser sup port
for numbers is generally better than that for names. I’m talking about more exotic
characters, of course, and not the basic five mentione d above. For example, if you
would like to display a white chess rook, then you write:

and some more exotic ones like weather or recycling symbols at

2.7 Homework
Professor: For homework, build a menu system for navigating through pages of a
website. Assume the following main menu items:
Home, Lighting, Small Home Appli-
ances
, Support, and Contact. Let the menu item Lighting include a su b-menu contain -
ing items
Energy Saving Lamps, LED Lamps, and Halogen Lamps. Under Halogen
Lamps
add a sub-sub-menu containing the items H alogen Classic and Halogen Spot.
Also write HTML code that displays the following in the browser window.
Maria: Can you give us some more clues as how to build a menu system?
Mike: Likewise, I think we need more detailed instructions.
Professor: OK, I’ll give you some hints. A menu system is nothing more than a
structured co llection of hyperlinks shown on a page. You do not have to point the
links to actual documents or you will have to create lots of files. Besides, you don’t
have to worry about how the menu looks.
Maria: Oh, I see. That shouldn’t be too dicult.
Professor: I ’m glad to hear that.
As the last thing for today, here is a new list of keywords. Try to co nnect them with
one another to form a mind map, which you can use later as a reference.
