What Application Will You Build?

With a highly productive platform like the Force Platform, the easiest way to learn about its features and capabilities is to build an application. This book will act as a guide to creating an application used to recruit new employees for a company known as Universal Containers.

This recruiting application gives users a way to post positions, enter candidates for those positions and track the status of the positions through the life of the posting, from initial submission for approval through the end of the hiring process. The application also manages supporting tasks during that lifecycle, including proactively informing stakeholders as to the progress of the hiring process and automatically assigning interviewers for selected candidates.

The recruiting application used in this book is similar to the recruiting application used as the basis of the Force Platform Fundamentals book, although the goals of this book require some slight variations in the implementation details. In a similar fashion, the Force Platform Cookbook uses a recruiting application as the basis for some of the recipes in that book.

Another version of this recruiting application, with more depth and detail, is used in the course offered by Salesforce.com Training & Certification. Some of the exercises used in that course provided the foundation for some of the exercises in this book, but the course provides a more rigorous examination of the overall capabilities of the Force Platform.
