Part 3

Loss in Other Life Circumstances

Although we tend to think of grief as stemming from bereavement, that isn’t always the case. In this part, we explore additional losses that can cause you to feel grief and other emotions. There are some losses in our lives that we expect (even when we try to deny them), such as aging or the death of grandparents. But we may be less prepared for a job loss or divorce. Human relations can bring us the most joy in life and also cause us the most pain. We look at the grief from separations and divorces, as well as loss of a job or a home.

We can also grieve for what happens to our bodies as we age and/or become seriously ill. Our struggle with growing old or becoming disabled can feel very painful. These types of losses can also make us confront our own mortality, which can be a scary process.
