Every Business has to Provide Service

The logical way to keep customers happy is to not have any customer service problems. I accept this. If I offer something that has zero defects and zero problems, customer service is pretty simple. Likewise, if I offer a product or service and don’t sell any of it at all, I have no service issues. The problem with either of these examples is that neither is attainable for very long. Sooner or later, my product or service is going to have a problem of some sort. Similarly, I’m not going to stay in business long without sales. Therefore, there is no possibility of my not offering some kind of service. It is a requirement of any business. Every company or service provider has a customer service department, even if it is not “labeled” that way. Does your dentist’s office have a customer service department? It does when you call for directions. What about your hair stylist? Yes, when he or she sets your appointment and takes your money. Does your attorney? Yes, each time you get a bill. Each of these is a function of service. Every contact is service. There is no service provided that does not include customer service of some sort. None. Everything that is done for, or on behalf of, someone else includes service.
