Part III: Organizational Aspects

Part II provided a methodology on how to transform the campus network to IBN. Although the method primarily involves IBN and what is required for that transformation, it also provides handles and pointers to the changes required within the organization to have the organization benefit from IBN.

Many of the described tasks and steps involve a lot of effort and change within the network operations team. But the network operations team is not an entity unto itself; it is part of a larger organization, so the organization will need to change too. Also, IBN is not an isolated evolution; many other (internal and external) factors drive change within an organization as well.

Regardless of the driver (IBN or other factors), changing an organization or process is much more complex and challenging than introducing a new technology. It requires time, effort, persuasion, and enticement. As the lead in the transformation you will probably face resistance, intense discussions, and challenges too.

This part provides background information on different organizational aspects related to a transformation to IBN, regardless of whether IBN is a requirement, a cause, or an effect. The last chapter of this part also provides some recommendations that might be helpful in driving changes in an organization.

The chapters in this final part of the book are as follows:

Chapter 11 Architecture Frameworks

Chapter 12 Enabling the Digital Business

Chapter 13 IT Operations

Chapter 14 Tips to Make Your IBN Journey a Success
