Once you start an instance, it runs until it is terminated. You can't connect to or recover the instance once your instance is terminated. You can only be sure of this if you can start a new instance with the same software as a migrated instance. Create an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) from the instance and then create a template which specifies the AMI if required.

You can then create a template through where you can launch instances from the AMI which have been created from your migrated instance.
