Migration architecture design provides a blueprint enabling the delivery of VMware's IaaS Migration Portal toolset in the customer's environment. The customer will leverage this portal to deliver Physical to virtual (P2V) and V2V migrations for the migration project.

This section provides the conceptual, logical, and physical design needed to deliver the Cloud Migration Portal (CMP) and VMware Converter solution, and details the various strategies and considerations needed to perform the migrations.

The design incorporates VMware best practices within the project's technical and business constraints, and the specific requirements identified. Technical, organizational, procedural, and policy-related requirements have been considered. The following is a list of modules that support the migration architecture:

• SDDC Infrastructure: This module provides a foundational approach to building a software-defined data center architecture delivered in a single physical data center. It consists of compute, storage, and network virtualization capabilities, and provides a design that considers scalability and availability of management components, utilizing the underlying virtualization platform. In addition, it provides layer 2 and layer 3 logical connectivity between virtual machines, and layer 3 connectivity between overlay networks and external networks using VMware NSX Edge routing functionality (static or dynamic). Finally, it provides virtual storage capabilities to the management stack.
• SDDC Operations: This module provides comprehensive monitoring for the software-defined data center. The foundational monitoring platform delivers performance and capacity-management dashboards for management components. It also provides optimized, consolidated, and operationalized process definition for monitoring, performance, and capacity management for the SDDC infrastructure. Additionally, it provides enhanced role, responsibility, and skill set enablement guidance.
• SDDC Automation: This module expands the software-defined data center with cloud computing capabilities. It provides enterprise-ready architecture for the delivery of infrastructure as a service (IaaS), and provides a self-service portal for consumers to request and manage IaaS services. It also provides a service catalog with automation and approval workflows, an optimized service life cycle (service definition, design, development, release), governance processes, and supporting materials based on VMware best practices. Additionally, it provides a service-/tenant-focused role, responsibility, and skill set enablement guidance, and enables application service offerings for application consumption.
• Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery: This module delivers comprehensive business continuity. It enables the recovery of business applications if a site failure occurs using VMware Site Recovery Manager. It also enables the backup and recovery of data stored within a virtual machine, or the whole virtual machine, using VMware vSphere Data Protection.
