The system collects data continually from the external sources and updates the tables hourly, daily, or monthly, as scheduled. The collected data can be viewed on the dashboard or can be used to generate reports. This update occurs daily. However, the update might trigger when there are changes in the user interface and when there are major changes in the inventory, such as initialization of the system or the addition of a new server connection or account.
When a job starts, it collects inventory, usage information, and user changes to cost formulas that were made before starting the job, and the most current defaults from the reference database. The job then invokes a series of calculation steps on the data, without interfering with the ongoing inventory or user changes. When the calculation is finished, the costs are updated.
