Creating and Managing Reminders and Lists
Reminders lets you create and manage to-do lists. You can add reminders to custom lists, assign them to future due dates, and mark them as completed to hide them from view.
You can manage your to-do lists and fine-tune reminders by using the Reminders controls . You can create multiple to-do lists to keep your work, personal, and other tasks separate. Reminders comes with two lists: Reminders for active reminders and Completed for finished tasks.
1. Tap or tap the next empty item in the list.
2. Type a description for the reminder.
3. Tap Return.
1. Tap List > Edit > Create New List.
2. Type a description for the list.
3. Tap Done.
To set the default list for new reminders, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Default List (below Reminders).
• To fine-tune a reminder, tap it .
• To switch among lists, tap List and then tap a list name. In List view, you can also tap Edit to reorder, delete, or rename lists. (You can’t edit or delete the Completed list, which shows reminders that you’ve marked as completed.)
• You can search for reminders from the Home screen. (See “Searching Your iPad” in Chapter 2.)
• To make reminders appear as notifications, tap Settings > Notifications > Reminders > Notifications Center > On. (For details, see “Getting Notifications” in Chapter 4.)
• To play audio alerts, tap Settings > General > Sounds > Reminder Alerts.
If your iPad is turned off, a text alert appears when you turn it on, but audio doesn’t play.
When you have multiple devices, you can use iCloud to sync your reminders across them. Update your to-do lists in one place, and see your changes everywhere. For details, see “Using iCloud” in Chapter 4.
• Tap Settings > iCloud > Reminders > On.
On your computer, you can sync reminders with Outlook or with for iCal/Reminders for OS X.
• Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Sync (below Reminders).
You can choose how far into the past to sync. Future reminders are always synced.
