Photoshop CC

Image Adobe Creative Cloud (p. 2, 4-5, 25, 543-544, 564) Creative Cloud is a membership-based cloud solution that allows you to access and download Adobe software, personal files, tutorial videos, and sync Adobe CC program settings online from any computer or device. A free membership is available with entry level features. A monthly cost-based membership adds downloads and more features. You can go to www.creativecloud.com for more details.

Image HiDPI (p. 2, 38-40, 335) Photoshop comes with HiDPI, which enables the rendering process for an improved display on high resolution devices, such as a MacBook Pro with Retina display. Artwork, text, and UI elements are crisper. You’ll notice the improvement when you zoom, pan, copy paste, drag elements, and view at 200%.

Image Sync Program Settings (p. 2, 4-5, 6, 30, 64-65, 564) With Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud), you can specify Sync Settings preferences to synchronize program settings to an Adobe Creative Cloud account, which you can use on other computers with Photoshop. When you’ve synced settings from another computer, you’ll be asked on startup to sync settings to this computer.

Image Adobe Exchange Panel (p. 3, 544, 562, 563) With the Adobe Exchange panel, you can find, purchase, download, and install resources, extensions, and plug-ins for Adobe programs. You can access the Adobe Exchange panel from the Window menu under Extensions.

Image Share On Behance (p. 6, 30, 442) Behance is a web site (www.behance.net) for creative people and teams to showcase and discover creative work. You can upload artwork to Behance directly from Photoshop, which creates a JPEG image and uploads it to your Behance account linked with your Adobe ID.

Image JPEG Images (p. 16, 28-29) You can open and save JPEG documents up to 65,535 pixels in width and height.

Image Adobe Camera Raw 8 (p. 18-19, 548-549, 550-551) Camera Raw 8 includes the Advanced Healing brush to touch up the shape of a region with the Spot Removal tool, the Radial Filter tool to apply adjustments to the outside or inside of an oval or circular area, and the Upright tool (under the Lens Correction tab, and the Manual tab) to automatically straighten horizons and apply perspective corrections without distorting the image. In addition, White Balance (under the Basic tab) includes added presets: Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, Tungsten, Fluorescent, and Flash.

Image Enlarge or Reduce Image Size (p. 22-23) You can enlarge or reduce the size of an image without pixelating it while preserving details. You can select a preset size option or manually enter a size.

Image Adobe Application Manager (p. 24) When you access a related program, such as Adobe Bridge or Mini Bridge, on the File menu that is not installed, the Adobe Application Manager opens, where you can install or update Adobe programs.

Image View Size (p. 38-40) The Actual Pixels command on the View menu and Options bar (for the Zoom tool) has been renamed to the 100% command. The keyboard shortcut remains the same. The 200% command has been added to the View menu.

Image Photoshop Extended (p. 50-53, 168-169) All of the features in the Photoshop Extended edition, including 3D and image analysis capabilities, are integrated into one Photoshop CC program.

Image Camera Raw File Compatibility Options (p. 60-61) In File Handling Preferences, you can select a Camera Raw option to convert 32-bit images to 16/8-bit.

Image Save Skin Tones Settings (p. 93) With the Color Range command, you can save Skin Tones selections as a preset. It can also save the setting for the Detect Faces option when Skin Tones or Sample Colors are selected.

Image Isolate Layers (p. 98, 125, 126) You can isolate selected layers in the Layers panel as a subset to make them easier to work with. The Isolate Layers command on the Select menu uses the Filter Layers feature with the Selected filter type in the Layers panel.

Image Crop Tool (p. 104-105) You can specify a cropping area from a preset, which includes Width x Height x Resolution, Aspect Ratio, and Front Image (selects a cropping area for use on another image), and swap or clear crop values.

Image Selected Filter Type (p. 125, 126) The Filter Layers feature in the Layers panel includes a Selected filter type, which allows you to filter out selected layers. The Isolate Layers command on the Select menu uses the Selected filter type.

Image Copy CSS (p. 139) You can use the Copy CSS command on the Layers menu to copy the generated CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) code from elements, such as button shapes or text, in Photoshop and then paste it in your HTML editor, such as Adobe Dreamweaver, or a text editor. This allows you to quickly integrate and use Photoshop content in your web page design using standard CSS code.

Image Shake Reduction Filter (p. 176-177) The Shake Reduction filter analyzes and sharpens an out-of-focus image due to camera motion. Sometimes when you take a photo, a slight movement of the camera can cause the image to blur. This is typically caused by a slow shutter speed or a long focal length.

Image Smart Sharpen Filter (p. 178-179) The Smart Sharpen filter sharpens the details (pixels) of an out-of-focus image without increasing the related noise. You can use the filter in two ways, either with the CC or CS6 (legacy with more noise) method.

Image Resizable Color Panel (p. 206-207) You can resize the Color panel.

Image Import Color Swatch from Web Files (p. 208-209) You can load color swatches from HTML, CSS, or SVG files to the Swatches panel. You can import the following HTML/CSS color syntax: #112233, #123, rgb(1,2,3), rgba(1,2,3,4), hsb(1,2,3), and hsba(1,2,3,4).

Image Edit Shapes (p. 248-249) When you create a shape, you can resize, edit, and re-edit it at any time with options on the Properties panel.

Image Edit Rounded Rectangles (p. 248-249) When you create a Rectangle or Rounded Rectangle, you can adjust the corner radius with options on the Properties panel.

Image Select Multiple Shapes and Paths (p. 248-249) You can select multiple shapes, paths, and vectors masks in the Document window or Layers panel, even if the elements are on different layers. After you make the selection, you can change common options on the Options bar or Properties panel all at the same time.

Image Overlapping Paths (p. 249) When two or more overlapping paths are selected, you can combine, subtract, intersect or exclude each other using the buttons in the Properties panel or you can use the keyboard shortcuts + (combine), - (subtract), * (intersect) and / (exclude). You can also commit to the values by selecting Merge Shape Components from the Options bar.

Image Maximum and Minimum Filters (p. 270-271) If you want to modify a selection mask, you can use the Maximum and Minimum filters. The filters look at individual pixels in a selection within a specified radius. You can adjust the radius value using whole or decimal values and specify whether to preserve square edges (known as squareness) or rounded edges (known as roundness) to achieve the results you want.

Image Move an Anchor Point (p. 288-289, 292, 295) If you don’t release the mouse when you click an anchor point, you can use the Spacebar to move it.

Image Anti-aliasing (p. 335) In addition to the main anti-aliasing options, you can select anti-aliasing options based on an operating system—either Mac or Windows—or a high definition (HiDPI) display—such as an iPad with Retina display—for better results.

Image Default Type Styles (p. 341) If you frequently use a set of paragraph and character styles in all your new documents, you can save them as the default type styles. When the styles are set as the default type styles and you create a new document in Photoshop, the default styles are automatically loaded in the Character Style and Paragraph Style panels. The default styles can also be loaded into any existing document using the Load Type Styles command.

Image Liquify Filter (p. 358, 360-362) You can apply the Liquify filter to a Smart Object, which allows the filter changes to be nondestructive. The filter also includes the Smooth tool, which allows you to blur away hard, sharp lines between smeared areas.

Image Blur Gallery Filter (p. 358, 376-377) You can apply the Blur Gallery filter to a Smart Object, which allows the filter changes to be nondestructive.

Image Camera Raw Filter (p. 368, 550-551) In addition to opening files in Camera Raw from the Open dialog box, you can also apply Camera Raw version 8 as a Smart Filter to a layer from an opened image with file formats other than raw formats, which are created from digital cameras. You can also convert to a Smart Object to nondestructively modify it.

Image Upright Filter (p. 369, 550-551) In Camera Raw, you can use the Upright filter under the Lens Correction tab to correct a tilted horizon or unbalanced perspective in an image. You can level an image with horizontal and/or vertical perspective, or let the tool automatically correct everything for you. You can also drag sliders to manually adjust Distortion, Vertical, Horizontal, Rotate, Scale, and Aspect ratio.

Image Radial Filter (p. 370, 550-551) In Camera Raw, you can use the Radial filter to apply image correction and enhancement adjustments outside or inside an oval radial filter region. You can create multiple filter regions in the same image, giving you the ability to target the areas you want to change.

Image Spot Removal Filter (p. 371, 550-551) In Camera Raw, you can use the Spot Removal filter to heal or clone spots in an image. Instead of using a circle to define an area, you can drag any shape to heal or clone spots in an image. If you’re not sure what areas to fix (sometimes it can be very hard to see), you can use the Visualize Spots option to help you see them.

Image Conditional Actions (p. 394, 406) A condition allows you to create an action based on different conditions. If you’re a programmer, it’s like an If-Then-Else statement for actions. You start the conditional action where you want it, choose the condition you want to trigger the action (the If part), and then you specify an action that plays when the condition is met (the Then part) and another one when the condition is not met (the Else part).

Image Embed ICC Color Profile (p. 494-496) You can embed an ICC color profile into a PNG image when you save for the web in the PNG-8 or PNG-24 file format. This increases the file size, yet helps maintain color consistency between monitors and operating systems.

Image Work with 3D Models (p. 538) In the 3D panel, you can add, delete, duplicate, and bake 3D objects, as well as create 3D instances. An instance is a clone (child) of an existing object (parent). When you make a change to the parent object, the change is applied to all instances (children). You can also group and reverse the stacking order of 3D objects in the 3D panel.

Image Paint 3D Models (p. 539) You can paint 3D objects and texture maps to create the look and feel you want for a 3D model. When you paint, you have a live cursor preview to see how your changes affect your 3D object. You can also create better glow effects, scene illumination, and lighting for bumps and textures.

Image Render 3D Models (p. 542) The 3D panel includes a Render button at the bottom.

What Happen To ...

Image Print Screen (p. 40) The Print Screen button on the Options bar for the Zoom tool has been removed from the program.

Image Additional Plug-ins Folder (p. 72) The Additional Plug-ins Folder option in Plug-Ins preferences has been removed from the program. You can place plug-ins in the default Photoshop Plug-ins folder to make them available for use in Photoshop.

Image Snap Object to Ground Pane (p. 537) The Snap Object to Ground Plane command on the 3D menu has been changed to Move Object to Ground Plane, which allows you to attach a selected 3D object to an existing ground plane.

Image Reparameterize UVs (p. 537) The Reparameterize command on the 3D menu has been changed to Regenerate UVs, which allows you generate a 3D mesh for a 3D object.

Image Adobe Extension Manager (p. 562) The feature to Manage Sets has been removed from the Adobe Extension Manager CC program.
