Part 2. Turning on the machines

Now that you know your way around Scratch and grasp some basic ideas in computer programming, you’re going to make a retro-style arcade game. We’re going to hold your hand through this process, telling you where everything is located and which colors to choose.

The game is broken down into a two-chapter set. The first chapter is the art chapter where you’ll make all the sprites for your game. The second chapter is the coding chapter where you’ll learn how to piece together the game with small scripts.

Before you jump into making the game, you should know that your game won’t be playable until you write your final script for the program. But that doesn’t mean you have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. The way you check your work is to compare the scripts you create on your screen to the scripts in the book. If they match, you’re good to go, and we’ll help you make any tweaks in the troubleshooting section.
