Personal goals

  1. Do you have a definition on paper of your principal purpose or chief aim for your working life?
  2. Can you break that down into two or three open-ended aims?
  3. Is your assessment of your strengths and weaknesses both positive and realistic?

Organizational goals

  • Are you clear about the objectives of your team now and for the next few years/months, and have you agreed them with your leader?
  • Do you fully understand the wider aims and purpose of the organization?
  • Can you relate the objectives of your team to those larger, more general intentions?
  • Does your present team objective have sufficient specificity? Is it defined in terms of time? Is it as concrete or tangible as you can make it?
  • Will the team be able to know soon for itself if you succeed or fail? Does it have swift feedback of results?

Leadership qualities

  1. Do you share the view that in leadership what you are is as important as what you know and what you do?
  2. Which three people known to you have you admired most as leaders?
  3. Can you think of five qualities that they shared in common?
  4. Did any one of them have a positive quality mentioned in Part Two that the other two lacked?
