Summary

The work that we have been doing in this chapter is starting to get a little complex, so I hope you are still with us. In this chapter, we introduced our new example where we are starting to create our new Splunk App around stock market data provided by Yahoo! Finance. We created a basic Splunk App in Simple XML, but we then converted the main dashboard into an HTML dashboard using the Splunk web interface.

We went back in and explored how HTML is now displayed in the Splunk Code Editor. We then took a tour through the HTML code that we created, providing a run through and explanation of all the major parts of the code. We then had a further discussion on the benefits of moving to HTML dashboards and had a further look at how searches are coded in the HTML code. We finally implemented a template in our development environment to help fast-track our development process.

Our next chapter is going to look further into the JavaScript that we have created as part of converting the Simple XML dashboard into HTML. We will make some direct changes to the code to see what effect it has on our dashboard and we will start to work with native JavaScript libraries to add functionality to our Splunk App. We will also look at how we can create our own library or use a third-party library as part of our code.
