As Sir Isaac Newton wrote so succinctly, “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” The Logic Power books are, without question, an absolute reflection of their original author, Orren Merton. The foundations Orren laid—upon which I was lucky enough to help build through a couple of revisions of Logic—were so strong that without them, and without Orren’s continued help and insight into the current version of Logic, this book would simply not be anywhere near as complete or thorough as it is. He is truly a giant whose knowledge and expertise are unparalleled. It is my honor to have worked with him, to have inherited his “baby,” and to call him friend.

To spend your days writing books and your nights working gigs, not to mention disappearing for weeks at a time for work, you need a very special and incredibly patient support system. I can’t thank my wife, Julli, and daughter, Taylor, enough for all the love and understanding they offer me. You guys rock. Also, my parents have always been in my corner, and I simply can’t thank them enough. And who can’t love a mother-in-law who’s okay with her daughter marrying a musician? I am blessed to have such a wonderful, loving family.

I have also been fortunate to have the guidance, friendship, and support of a few experts in Logic and other related applications. My brother, Sean Anker, lent his experience and expertise to my understanding of video for this project, and to my understanding of computers in general since we first started programming in BASIC on an Apple II+ nearly 35 years ago. He is the geek I always aspired to be. Eddie Al-Shakarchi, a truly brilliant producer, musician, and rapper (Associated Minds), has not only helped me check various quirks in Logic on a regular basis through several Logic revisions, but has also helped me to blow off a lot of steam via iChat from day one. One of these days Edd….

I also have to acknowledge the music community that has been my extended family for more years than I can recall—particularly Marc Schonbrun, Harvey Cook, Lester Johnson, Tad Robinson, Steve Gomes, Robb Stupka, David Earl and the entire Severn Records crew, Jeff Chapin, Adam Jay Southerland, my late mentors Tony Jessup and Claude Sifferlen, and countless others who have worked with me, taught me, mentored me, and accepted me into the brotherhood.

Finally, I have to thank my editors. Kate Shoup’s sense of ordering things and finding better ways to present the information that was there really elevated the quality of this project. I thank you for all your help making this book better! Eli Krantzberg, thank you so much for your insights. Your knowledge and thoroughness truly shone through in what was a hectic and unique revision. You pulled me back on the rails more than a few times, and this book is very much the better because of your insight.
