Managing the Solution

Managing this solution should be a relatively low-key task that doesn’t require much interaction. By design, the solution is a simple one that requires configuration in the beginning but only minimum maintenance after it is being used.

Permissions Management

When the site is created, you need to create a custom role that allows only for the addition of items and two SharePoint groups. One group is created for the training administrators and one for trainees. The training administrators need to be given Member access to the site so that they can view and update content. Trainees need to be given only Add permissions so that they register for classes.

Delete Requirements

You may have noticed that if we give trainees only the ability to add items, they will not be able to cancel their registration for any classes. This is by design. This chapter does not go into detail about the delete process because it is assumed that each organization will have a custom process that should be followed. To create this process you will likely need to incorporate a custom workflow that ensures that the proper steps are followed.

Registration Notification

Another area that this solution does not cover in detail is the process of sending an email notification when a user registers for a class. I’ve assumed that readers will incorporate this feature into the solution based on their organization’s specific needs. This feature can easily be incorporated by using a SharePoint Designer workflow that kicks off whenever a new item is added to the registration list.
