Quiz 32
Am I a Cat Person or a Dog Person?
Relating well to people is important, but so is relating to animals. Studies show that people who live with and care for pets tend to have higher levels of well-being than those who do not. Pet owners also tend to have a more positive attitude toward life.
But what kind of pet is right for you? There are over 68 million household dogs and over 73 million household cats in America, making these animals the most common of all pets. But even if you own both—or neither, as of yet—chances are you lean more toward being a “cat person” or a “dog person.” Take this quiz to find out about your pet preference, and what it says about you.

Scoring and Explanation

Tally your total number of “A” responses, “B” responses, and “C” responses:
A majority of “A” responses indicates that you are a dog person. Your partiality for pooches means you want a pet who is emotionally demonstrative, and who is willing to let you exert some control over the relationship (or at least willing to let you think that you do). Chances are you also prefer human relationships where the same dynamics occur. You yourself are probably affectionate and outgoing. You do not care too much for surprises, preferring predictability and stability in your life. As for cats, you may find them—and, more importantly, those who prefer them to dogs—hard to fathom. You wonder what people see in pets who are aloof and “above it all.” You suspect cat-lovers themselves to be a bit effete, and perhaps not as trustworthy as your fellow dog-lovers.
A majority of “B” responses indicates that you are a cat person. Your favoritism toward felines means you are a good match for a pet who is proud and independent—or at least capable of giving you the impression that they are. You don’t care as much for a dog’s gleeful greetings as you do for a cat’s wink and nod when you come in the door. Hey, you don’t need a “suck-up” pet to bolster your ego. You know your kitty really adores you—she just plays it cool. When all is said and done they want to curl up with you and purr your praises.
A fairly even split of “A” and “B” responses indicates that you are both a dog-lover and a cat-lover. You are truly an equal opportunity pet person who finds lovable qualities in all things fuzzy and furry.
A majority of “C” responses indicates that you should get a fish. Or, then again, maybe not.
