The job of the fashion designer does not end when the garments have
been made. Designers must document, display, and promote their collec-
tion. Revisiting the processes that resulted in this new body of work can
inform how designers choose to present their designs. The research and
sources of inspiration that went into building a collection can now inspire
the way it is documented in photographs and illustrations. Some portfo-
lios will also incorporate technical drawings, swatches, and mood boards.
The appearance of the models or croquis, and how they are accessorized,
should re ect a true understanding of the designer’s audience. Similarly,
the work of identifying their customer base now points to the various
avenues by which designers will approach, engage, and expand their clien-
tele. Every interface and experience with the consumer impacts the brand,
from logo design to marketing materials to runway show.
