THE PARTS LISTED FOR EACH OF THE EXPERIMENTS in this book can be purchased from reputable electronic component suppliers. You will notice an Appendix Code column in the “Things You’ll Need” table of each experiment; these refer to specific parts that I used in the experiments and are outlined in the table that follows. Basic components such as the various ½ watt rated carbon film resistors and the electrolytic and non-electrolytic capacitors don’t show an appendix code, because these parts are readily available from many different electronics suppliers. It should be noted that whenever I used an electrolytic capacitor in the experiments in this book I used the radial type. The radial type of electrolytic capacitor has its two leads protruding from one end of the component, unlike the axial type which has a lead protruding from either end of the device.
Because I am located in the United Kingdom, I acquired my parts from U.K. suppliers, several of which are listed in this section (along with one U.S. counterpart). To avoid high shipping costs, you’ll likely want to get your parts from a supplier located within your country. I’ve listed the specific parts that I used simply as a reference to help you to identify and source them. For each part I’ve listed, you can search by part number on the respective supplier’s web site to get a visual and technical details.
