Chapter 29. Surfacing in 3D

In the previous two chapters, you learned how you can create simple 3D objects in AutoCAD. By creating and manipulating these 3D primitives, you can create a wide variety of more complex objects such as chairs, tables, and so on. There are, however, many instances in which you need more flexibility in modeling complex objects such as irregularly curved surfaces.

Fortunately, AutoCAD provides a set of surfacing commands with which you can create the outlines of these types of objects in profile using lines or polylines and then create surfaces between these lines. This chapter takes a look at the various methods and techniques AutoCAD provides for creating both simple and complex 3D surfaces. This chapter covers the following topics:

  • Basic surfacing techniques

  • Working with advanced surfacing commands

  • 3D meshes

  • Editing mesh surfaces
