About the Authors

David Harrington is the office computer manager at Walter P. Moore and Associates, Inc., a structural engineering company in Tampa, where he specializes in commercial structural computer-aided drafting and design work. Although now doing structural work using AutoCAD, his experiences range from landscape irrigation design to retrofitting Launch Pad B for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. He has been active in the AutoCAD local user group community for over 12 years, holding offices for the Tampa Bay AutoCAD User Group as newsletter editor, treasurer, content director, and president. Beginning in 1994, Harrington became involved on the board of directors for Autodesk User Group International (AUGI). There he has served as the local user group representative, AEC Industry Group chair, vice president, and also president. Harrington first became familiar with AutoCAD in 1987 when he began working with AutoCAD Release 2.6. He is well versed in AutoLISP, creating hundreds of programs, as well as REVCLOUD—a feature found in the Express Tools. An avid writer, Harrington has authored numerous articles for national trade magazines, as well as user group publications PaperSpace and WorldView, published by AUGI. Harrington has AutoCAD Level II certification from Autodesk. Additionally, Harrington has won the CADENCE magazine Top Gun AutoCAD contest and the CADalyst Challenge AutoCAD contest. These awards attest to his grasp of the software and his ability to make the program work for him. He is also a member of the faculty for Autodesk University, regularly speaking and teaching at the event. In addition to this book, Harrington also technical edited Inside AutoCAD, Release 14 and co-authored/technical edited Inside AutoCAD 2000 and Inside AutoCAD 2000, Limited Edition.

Bill Burchard is Corporate CADD Manager for Psomas, a California-based land surveying and civil engineering firm. Mr. Burchard has served the AEC industry for 25 years. His range of experience includes surveying and engineering design, computer modeling and applications development, plan preparation, and technical publications, as well as web development, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D modeling, 3D photo-realistic renderings, and 3D animations. Additionally, Mr. Burchard is a registered Autodesk author/publisher, and along with co-author David Pitzer, has written numerous books, including Inside AutoCAD 2000 Limited Edition, Inside AutoCAD 2000, Inside AutoCAD 14 Limited Edition, and Inside AutoCAD 14. Mr. Burchard also writes regularly featured articles for CADalyst Magazine, for Inside AutoCAD Journal, and for Autodesk’s Toplines eNewsletter, which is accessed from Autodesk’s Point A Web site (www.autodesk.com/pointa). He writes both feature articles and a bimonthly column for CADalyst and for Toplines, and writes monthly articles for Inside AutoCAD Journal. Additionally, Mr. Burchard sits on the Advisory Committee Board for Computer Sciences at Riverside Community College, and lectures on the subject of GIS for the University of California, Irvine.

David Pitzer has been an AutoCAD user for over 12 years. He is a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Santa Rosa Junior College where he teaches AutoCAD and AutoLISP. David is a contributing editor for CADalyst Magazine. He has been a speaker at numerous AutoCAD conferences, including Autodesk University. This is his fifth AutoCAD book for New Riders. David resides in the San Francisco Bay area.
