Blender provides some tools for unwrapping that you can find within the interface.
Select some faces in Edit Mode (usually, when unwrapping, you’ll work with faces) and press U to display the UV Mapping pop-up menu.
Marking Seams is one of the key tools to use when unwrapping and you can access it from the Edge menu (Ctrl + E) after selecting one or more edges (you’ll learn about seams in a moment).
In the Tools Region of the 3D View, go to the Shading / UVs tab. There, you’ll find the UV Mapping options and the Seams options as well.
From the 3D View header, in the Mesh menu, you can access the UV Unwrap menu as well.
