Now you are thinking, "Sure, Jordan, you had us create a couple of folders on a server. Whoop dee doo! Now you want us to believe that by creating two folders we have somehow unlocked some "Central Store Magic," without performing any other actions?" Fair enough, I understand your skepticism. We did not press any Apply or Commit buttons, we did not see anything change, and we did not get any kind of verification prompt telling us that we have made such a significant adjustment to the way that Administrative Templates work. I guess I'll need to prove it to you. Now that we have added our folders, let's relaunch GPMC and verify that Central Store is enabled. Prior to adding the new folders, I remembered to take a screenshot from inside the GPME, where you can see that the Administrative Templates tell us that they are being retrieved from the local computer. This tells us that the displayed settings are coming from ADMX files stored on the hard drive of this machine. Again, this is the way it looked before I created the two new folders:
When I visit this same screen after creating those two folders inside SYSVOL, I now see different results. In fact, I will even open GPMC from a different machine – my LAPTOP1 Windows 10 machine where I have the RSAT tools installed. I created those SYSVOL folders on my Domain Controller, yet opening up GPMC on this remote workstation and navigating to Administrative Templates now reports that Policy definitions (ADMX files) retrieved from the central store:
