Filtering by your own comments

Let's look at another filtering example, and at the same time prove to you that typing comments into your Group Policy settings is a beneficial use of your time. Heading back into Filter Options, let's now remove our keyword specifications and instead create one simple filtering requirement. Change the drop-down menu for Commented to say Yes:

This filter will display for us only policy settings that have had comments added to them by us, the administrators. You can see those results in the following screenshot, and as you will notice there is only one policy setting being displayed to me inside my Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates – the Run these programs at user logon setting that I am using inside this GPO. This is the only policy setting inside Administrative Templates (within this GPO) that has a comment attached to it:

There is also the option to combine the comments selection with a keyword search. By choosing Commented=Yes, and then specifying a Keyword Filter that says JK with the Comment box checked, I am telling the filter to display for me settings that are commented, but only where the Comments section includes JK (these are my initials):

This is one of the reasons that I always type my initials into comment fields. If another admin stumbles upon my settings, they know who put it into place. Additionally, if I wanted to filter a GPO and find all settings that I put into place, by having my initials plugged into the Comment field on all of those settings, they are easily searchable.
