Modeling is probably the most important stage in the character-creation process because it’s the method you’ll use to generate the polygons that will become the principal forms of your finished character. In this chapter, you’ll learn the basics of modeling in Blender and how to use some of the main tools you’ll have at your disposal. Then, in the next chapters, when one of these tools is mentioned, you’ll be familiar with it. There are three primary technical considerations you need to address before you can properly model in 3D: identifying the elements that comprise a mesh, learning how to select them, and knowing what tools you can use to work with them. You’ll learn about all of these subjects in this chapter.
