Planning Your Revision

At the end of the day how you revise is, of course, down to you. You may already be very clear on what works best for you. Having said that, it normally helps to revise in two ways:

check.png Revise the different areas of PRINCE2, such as the themes and processes, as you go along. After you’ve studied each part, revise it thoroughly to be sure you’ve understood it well and know it. If you’re attending a training course, each evening try to lock in the areas that you’ve covered during the day. Approaching detailed revision in this way has two benefits:

• If you’re really clear on one area of the method, it helps you with learning subsequent related areas. For example, it can be a bit tricky getting to grips with the exact responsibilities of the different roles at end stage if you haven’t thoroughly taken on board what the roles are and are still unsure of them.

• The method is large – as you probably already appreciate. Breaking up the detailed revision in this modular way reduces the load just before the exam. Clearly, spreading the revision load is particularly important if you’re attending a training event where the exams are included at a fixed time in the course.

However, don’t focus solely on the areas where you’re unsure. You need to go over everything again at a high level to be sure that you have the whole method in your mind now, not isolated and unconnected islands of information on the different parts.

The chapters in Parts II, III and IV of this book are to help you with your revision. I’ve written one chapter on each of the processes and themes, and then a couple on management products and how the whole method fits together. You can use these chapters to check your learning during a training course or as you work through the manual, subject area by subject area. Each chapter has practice questions in both Foundation and Practitioner styles. For more on the differences between the two, read the specific information on each exam and its question styles later in this chapter.
