The following are data-tier components for integration:

• Monitoring database: This is used to store system configuration and component information that is used for SAP support. It is the default monitoring database with an embedded Apache Derby database, which uses the Apache Derby JDBC driver. From SAP BI 4.0 SP4 onward, you can move the monitoring database from the Derby database to the audit database.
• Universes: The Universe is the semantic layer between the end user and organizational database. They are built by IDT and can be identified by the .unx file extension.
