Part 5
Thinking Outside the Box
There are few movies lines more parodied than “Luke, I am your father” from Star Wars. Poor Luke, in one heck of an awkward moment, his whole way of seeing things shifted dramatically. From that point forward, Father’s Day took on a whole new meaning.
This is that moment for you, except that I’m pretty sure I’m not your father. No, I’m here to tell you once and for all that the majority of Americans no longer ship themselves or their kids off to a four-year college, join a frat or sorority, or travel Europe on their summer breaks. In reality, the majority of Americans have realized this is either unproductive or unattainable and are pursuing much more effective alternative approaches.
In this final part, we take a step back and examine some of the new paradigms in earning and paying for a college degree. We talk about the wisdom behind community college, online degrees, and vocational programs. We also examine some of the biggest college money mistakes made by well-meaning students, as well as what to do if you have some time left to save.
