ABOUT THE AUTHORS

MARK L. SIROWER is a US leader in Deloitte’s M&A and Restructuring practice, which he joined in 2008 to launch the M&A Strategy practice. For more than 25 years, Mark has advised boards of directors and senior executive teams on hundreds of transactions, from strategy and diligence through post-merger integration. Previously, he built the Deals Strategy Group at PwC, and was global leader of the M&A practice at the Boston Consulting Group, where he developed innovative approaches to crafting M&A strategies, planning integrations, delivering synergies after the merger, and creating shareholder value.

Mark has taught M&A at the Wharton School and, for 30 years and counting, at the NYU Stern Executive MBA program as an adjunct professor. He is the author of the groundbreaking M&A bestseller The Synergy Trap, and his research and publications on M&A have been featured in Harvard Business Review, BusinessWeek, Fortune, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Economist, Financial Times, CFO, and Barron’s. He speaks worldwide on issues related to M&A.

Mark received his PhD from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and MBA from the Kelly School of Business, Indiana University. He lives in Manhattan.

JEFFERY M. WEIRENS is the leader of Deloitte’s global Financial Advisory business, which drives impact in defining moments for clients and society through mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, restructuring, and forensic services. He serves on Deloitte’s Global Executive as well as the WorldImpact Steering Committee, setting Deloitte’s strategy on critical topics including climate, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

For more than 30 years, Jeff has advised clients on several of the world’s most iconic acquisitions and divestitures while growing and transforming Deloitte’s Consulting and Advisory businesses. He has served in multiple leadership roles within Deloitte Consulting, including as a member of the Management Committee, as the US Leader of the Energy, Resources and Industrials Sector, and as the US and Global Leader of the M&A and Restructuring practice. He is a trusted adviser to senior client executive teams and boards of directors; has advised on hundreds of acquisitions, divestitures, and transformations; and is an expert on post-merger integration and divestitures.

Jeff has an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University; a BSB from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota; and is a Certified Public Accountant. He lives in North Oaks, MN.
