This chapter provides details on the Scooby-Doo world. This world’s gateway is found on the lower-left level of Vorton.

Areas to Explore

When visitors arrive through the gateway, a number of areas can be used to help navigate (Figure 18.1). Look to the east of the gateway, and in the distance you see an abandoned lighthouse. There is a steep pathway you can follow all the way to the top. Beneath the lighthouse are some cave tunnels that are worth exploring.

FIGURE 18.1 There are a lot of places to explore on this spooky island.

Northeast of the lighthouse is the haunted mansion, and a curving path leads up to it. The path behind the lighthouse runs behind the house but does not give access to the mansion. To the right of the mansion is a small shed that you should not ignore.

Tip: The Valuable Returning Purple Studs

You can use Shaggy’s flashlight (or Gandalf’s Illuminate ability) to provide light inside the shed. Hidden in here is a purple stud worth 10,000 points. Even better, this purple stud reappears (in the shed) every time you leave and return to Scooby-Doo world. You’ll find that purple studs in other worlds also reappear when you leave and return, so use this as a great way to increase your stud count.

Farther north of the mansion is the cemetery, and you can reach it by following the path to the right of the lighthouse that runs behind the mansion. There is another entrance to the cemetery from the front.

When you exit the gateway, directly ahead you see the fairgrounds—a great place to collect gold studs! In addition to finding a lot of gold studs, you can find some boost pads that can help you get a vehicle onto the rollercoaster track for some fun driving.

Locations to Repair/Upgrade

Be on the lookout for five floating ghosts. Each ghost offers (for a price) to upgrade or repair an area that then offers extras such as gold bricks. These are some of the repairs you can make by providing the ghosts with proper payment:

Image Restore the lighthouse—Doing this adds a few surprises to the top of the lighthouse as well as a lot more studs to collect. The cost to restore the lighthouse is 70,000 studs.

Image Repair the haunted house—If you make upgrades, you discover a few hidden gold bricks as well as add additional areas on the roof to explore and open up a few of the quests. The cost to repair the haunted house is 80,000 studs.

Image Restore the fairgrounds tent—This upgrade makes available a locked area that contains a gold brick. The cost to restore the tent is 40,000 studs.

Image Restore the mausoleum—This upgrade restores a special area in the cemetery that requires a character who can capture ghosts. The cost of this upgrade is 40,000 studs.

Image Unlock the jukebox (Figure 18.2)—Doing this enables you to change the music playing in the background as you explore. Use X to change the music. The cost of the jukebox is 25,000 studs.

Available Quests

This world offers five quests. Three of them must be done in a specific order; the other two can be done at any time. These are the five quests:

Image Help Scooby-Doo’s parents get to their hotel (1 of 3)—After exiting the gateway, proceed straight ahead, toward the fairgrounds. Scooby’s parents are on the left side, just as you enter the fair, and they want to get to the haunted mansion. Help them get there and fight off any skeletons or ghosts that attack. You can follow Scooby’s parents by moving in the direction of the blue pointer arrow that appears onscreen (Figure 18.3). You are rewarded with a gold brick when they reach the mansion.

Image Help Daphne locate Fred, Velma, and Scooby’s parents (2 of 3)—Once Scooby’s parents have arrived at the mansion, Daphne asks for help in locating Fred, Velma, and Scooby’s parents. There are a lot of hidden areas in and around the house, and you need to use Scooby’s nose to look for clues (Figure 18.4) as well as Wyldstyle’s Acrobat ability and Relic Scanner. Start by changing to Scooby-Doo. Press B and follow the clues into the house that lead to two different locations. One is upstairs and requires Wyldstyle’s Relic Scanner (B) to locate a handle. Pull it and approach and release Velma (B). Downstairs, Scooby-Doo uncovers another handle that reveals his dad.

Now change to Wyldstyle and go outside the house. Move around the house until you find a vertical wall that Wyldstyle can climb. From there, use Wyldstyle’s Acrobat ability to carefully jump and climb across various small platforms and metal beams. Press B when you’re above Scooby-Doo’s mom, and she returns to Daphne. Continue jumping and climbing until you spot another vertical wall. Beneath that vertical wall are a few small platforms. Drop down onto them and cross over two wooden planks to find Fred (Figure 18.5); press B to send him back to Daphne. Return to Daphne, and you are rewarded with a gold brick.

Image Help Fred locate Old Man Robert’s lost treasure (3 of 3)—After you help Daphne locate her four lost friends, look for Fred on the stone path that runs between the lighthouse and the cemetery. Change to Scooby-Doo and use his nose (B) to follow a trail that leads back to the haunted mansion. Inside, Scooby locates a pressure plate on the upper floor. Stand on it to reveal a hidden handle on the first floor. Pull the handle, and Fred falls down a tunnel to a hidden area beneath the mansion. Jump down into the tunnel. Use Shaggy’s flashlight to light up the inside of one of the ships; push the button inside the ship to release a number of ghosts. When you defeat the ghosts, bars lift on another ship and reveal a second button. Push the button to open a gate and give Fred access to the treasure (Figure 18.6). Your reward is another gold brick!

Move Wyldstyle to the debris blocking the cave entrance and use her Relic Scanner. When an orange handle is revealed, have Batman use it to pull the debris down (B) using his Grapple ability and reveal the way out of the cave.

Image Help Velma find her glasses—Inside the caverns beneath the lighthouse, Velma is looking for her glasses—not the pair she’s wearing, but the 30 pairs she’s lost over the years. Help her find all 30 pairs of glasses, and you gain another gold brick. These glasses are scattered all over the island, as well as under it. You have to look everywhere, including beneath the water, to find them all.

Image Help Velma explore the mausoleum—After you restore the mausoleum in the cemetery, Velma asks for your help exploring the area. Unfortunately, the mausoleum is infested with ghosts and can be cleared only by a professional who has ghost-capturing experience. Of course, this requires a Ghostbuster minifig, and if you can manage to clear the mausoleum, you gain another gold brick.

Don’t Miss

The Scooby-Doo world has lots of hidden areas and secrets to discover. The following are just a few to get you started:

Image The lost beach—Somewhere on the island is a lost beach. There isn’t a path or walkway to reach it, so you must swim to find it. Jump into the water and follow the shoreline around the island.... You’ll know the lost beach when you see it. A couple keystone devices there help you solve a puzzle and recover a gold brick.

Image The sunken sub—Beneath the waves are a number of structures you can explore. Keep an eye out for a sunken submarine, and when you find it, explore the area and collect a bunch of studs.

Image The cemetery—If you enjoyed the keystone puzzles in the Story Mode, you’ll find a fun Chroma puzzle to solve in the cemetery for a gold brick. Two of the color pads are easy to find, but the third will require Wyldstyle’s Acrobat ability.

Up Next...

The DC Comics world’s gateway is one of three worlds that’s always available to you because you already own the Batman minifig that unlocks this world. Step through that gate and get ready to explore what happened after Lord Vortech tried to merge the various LEGO worlds. Superman’s Metropolis and Batman’s Gotham City have been joined, and there’s a lot of work to do to repair the city. The citizens there can use your help.
